Sam Behrend
BIOGRAPHY
Sam Behrend (He/Him/His) is a Senior Manager within Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina’s Actuarial division. Prior to joining BCBS NC in 2022, he spent 10 years with the benefits consulting firm Willis Towers Watson as a financial and health analytics lead. Sam holds both a B.S. degree in mathematics and B.A. in computer science from Denison University, as well as a M.S. in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a fully credentialed actuary with the Society of Actuaries as well as the American Academy of Actuaries.
While at WTW, Sam served as the Carolinas lead of the LGBTQ+ ERG (Out@WTW) beginning in 2013 and represented the East region of the Inclusion and Diversity Council from 2018 onwards, coordinating local pride efforts, speakers and facilitating unconscious bias training. Additionally, he spent two years operating as the Treasurer of Charlotte’s inclusive rugby team, the Royals. Sam now serves as the membership and engagement chair of BCBS NC’s LGBTQ+A Employee Network.
Sam lives in Charlotte with his husband Tim and enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible, engaging with the native plant society, birding and having cocktails with friends.
